Grammy's Anyone?

Did anyone watch the Grammy's? They're my least favorite award show of the year (well, except for any MTV award show, natch), but they still count as part of "awards season".

I was reading this article on BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6347969.stm
and it seems like some good folks won (namely, Mary J. Blige won 3 R&B honors and Carrie Underwood received 3 country awards).

My question is, has anyone heard the Dixie Chicks album? They got album of the year and sadly, I think they were banned from the radio in this part of the country. Poor Natalie Maines, she was so ahead of the times...

Anyway, let me know your thoughts!

the new dixie chicks album is good...but it is different. The chicks themselves have said they don't consider themselves "country" anymore. I can understand that they feel very betrayed by a majority of their fan base and i get the feeling that this award might have been a bit of an olive branch to try to make up for all the flak they caught in 2004-2005. Country stations here in Cinci have been playing their stuff but their stuff isn't /really/ country these days so i think that contributes to their lower amount of airplay.

The chicks have good voices, great harmony, play their instruments well and deserve credit for making a ruccus in the very closed environment that is country music. i'm glad they've recieved their comeuppance but it does seem a bit "forced"...not that the grammies don't always seem "forced".

I appreciate the review Maskew, as I actually really like the Dixie Chicks (ahem, Tina). They were one of the first "country" bands I lisented to, so I'll definitely have to check out their album.

Agreed. The grammy's are forced. I read a really funny article the other day about how they are really the recording industry's way of promoting their own, and they fail to represent the public sentiment for popular music.

Case and point: 1995 Best Rock Album went to the Rolling Stones for "Voodoo Lounge" Other nominees? Pearl Jam (Vs), Soundgarden (Superunknown), REM (Monster) and Neil Young (Sleeps with Angels)

I have a thing against ANY celebrity who uses their position for political gain or commentary.

I used to love them, now they just rub me the wrong way.

Sorry. I am sure they are great.

AMY, There is a 27 year old chick on American Idol from Naperville. Watch tomorrow night and see if you know her... ;)
